数学の記号でシグマ記号(Σ)があります。
数列を総和する事を表す記号sigimaですが、転じて多様な知識や技術を集合させて、全く新しい物を創造する思いを込めて、シグマックスを社名としました。
シグマックスは、平成元年の創立から30有余年になりますが、この間実に多くの製品を開発して上市してきました。しかし2,3の例外を除いて、どの製品にも残念ながら寿命が有り、一時は売り上げに大きく貢献してくれた製品も、ある時突然中止になるという経験が多々ありました。
時には茫然自失する程のダメージを受けたこともありましたが、幸いなことにその度に新しい用途が偶然開拓できたり、新製品のテーマが急に出現し開発に成功したりして、ここまで事業を継続する事が出来ました。

上の2枚の写真は、シグマックスの歩みを端的に表現しているものです。
左側はシグマックス創設時に、テレビのブラウン管工場でセラミックラベルの採用が初めて決まり、急遽量産する必要に迫られて、消しゴムやアングル、ネジ棒などホームセンターでかき集めた材料で、２，３日徹夜で仕上げたセラミックラベルの加工機です。当時出始めた卓上型コンピュータをコントローラーとして使っており、立派に20万枚/月のペースで量産できました。手作り感満載ですが、ベンチャー精神ここにありです。
右側は現在使用しているセラミックラベル加工機ですが、長年の加工経験を反映させて可能な限りの自動化を進め、画像処理による検査機能も備えて、夜間の無人運転が可能になっています。30有余年の進化の結果です。
今後もこのチャレンジ精神を失うことなく、新しい課題に果敢に挑戦するシグマックスでありたいと願っております。
